gilt frames
Shiny picture surrounds
Gilt frames are picture frames covered with a thin layer of gold or gold-colored material.
The gilding gives frames an ornate, luxurious appearance associated with fine art and traditional décor: The museum's Old Masters hung in elaborate gilt frames.
Gilt frames range from genuine gold leaf to cheaper imitations.
The style evokes classical galleries and formal portraiture.
