giant salamanders
Huge aquatic amphibians
Giant salamanders are the largest living amphibians, aquatic creatures that can exceed five feet in length.
Native to East Asia and North America, they inhabit cold, fast-flowing streams and rivers.
The Japanese and Chinese species are particularly massive, sometimes called "living fossils" for their ancient lineage.
Unlike most salamanders, they spend their entire lives in water.
