giant Buddha
Massive sacred statue
A giant Buddha is a monumental statue depicting the Buddha, typically carved from rock or cast in bronze.
These massive sculptures appear throughout Asia, from the ancient Bamiyan Buddhas of Afghanistan to modern constructions in China, Japan, and Thailand.
The scale—often tens or hundreds of feet tall—conveys spiritual reverence and serves as pilgrimage sites: We hiked up to see the giant Buddha overlooking the harbor.
