getting onto

Starting to understand

Getting onto combines motion toward a surface with arrival on it: She's getting onto the bus, The cat keeps getting onto the counter.

It extends to topics or tasks one is beginning to address: We're finally getting onto the main issue.

In British usage, getting onto someone means contacting them: I'll be getting onto the supplier tomorrow.
