Futures bets are wagers placed on outcomes that won't be determined until later in a season or competition—betting on which team will win the championship before the season starts, or who will be named MVP.
The odds shift as the season progresses, and bettors lock in their payout at the moment they place the bet: I put a futures bet on the Eagles back in August.
