funny bones
Nerves near elbows
The funny bone is the spot on the elbow where the ulnar nerve passes close to the skin.
Hitting it produces a sharp tingling sensation down the arm—peculiar rather than amusing, which may explain the name.
The term also refers to one's sense of humor: The movie really tickled my funny bone.
