freshness date
Food safety timestamp
A freshness date is a date printed on food packaging indicating when the product is expected to be at peak quality.
Unlike expiration dates, freshness dates suggest optimal taste and texture rather than safety limits: The bread is past its freshness date but still fine to eat.
Also called a best-by date or sell-by date.
