Fresh dates are the soft, moist fruit of the date palm before drying.
Unlike the wrinkled, chewy dried dates common in grocery stores, fresh dates have smooth skin and tender flesh with a mild, honey-like sweetness: Fresh dates are best eaten within a few weeks of harvest.
