force push
Mind-powered thrust away
Force push is a Git operation that overwrites a remote repository's history with your local version, even when the two have diverged.
Regular pushes fail when your local branch conflicts with the remote; force pushing bypasses this protection: I had to force push after rebasing.
It's useful for cleaning up commit history but dangerous on shared branches—it can erase teammates' work.
The hyphenated form works as noun or modifier: a force-push, force-push the fix.
