food-borne disease
Eating causes sickness
A food-borne disease is an illness caused by consuming contaminated food or drink.
Bacteria, viruses, parasites, or toxins in improperly handled, stored, or prepared food can cause symptoms ranging from mild stomach upset to severe infection: Salmonella is one of the most common food-borne diseases.
Also called food poisoning in casual use, though technically food poisoning refers specifically to toxin-caused illness.
