foam packaging
Spongy shipping material
Foam packaging is lightweight protective material made from expanded plastic—usually polystyrene or polyethylene—used to cushion fragile items during shipping and storage.
It includes molded inserts shaped to fit specific products, loose packing peanuts, and foam sheets.
The material is effective but environmentally problematic, as most foam packaging isn't easily recyclable: The TV arrived surrounded by foam packaging.
