flooded engine
Too much fuel
A flooded engine has too much fuel in its cylinders, preventing ignition—the spark plugs are wet and can't fire.
This happens when someone pumps the gas pedal repeatedly while trying to start a car, especially in cold weather: Don't keep cranking it, you'll flood the engine.
The fix is usually to wait or hold the pedal down while starting to clear excess fuel.
