float around
Wander without direction
To float around is to move without fixed direction or purpose, drifting from place to place: She floated around the party, chatting with different groups.
It also describes something circulating loosely or being vaguely present: That idea has been floating around for years, There's a rumor floating around the office.
Objects float around when they're somewhere nearby but not in a specific spot: I think there's a pen floating around here somewhere.
