fleecers
Those who defraud
Fleecers are people who swindle or defraud others, stripping them of money or possessions through deception.
The term derives from fleece—to shear a sheep of its wool—extended to mean cheating someone out of what they have: The fleecers targeted elderly homeowners with fake repair scams.
Con artists, scammers, and hustlers all qualify as fleecers.
