five more minutes

Alarm button request

Five more minutes is a request for a short extension of time, typically when someone is being asked to wake up, leave, or stop doing something.

The phrase is so associated with reluctance—especially with sleeping in—that it functions as a minor lie: Just five more minutes, Mom.

The actual time requested is almost never five minutes.

It can also express genuine need: Give me five more minutes and I'll have this finished.
