fan sequel
Unauthorized story extension
A fan sequel is an unofficial continuation of a story created by fans rather than the original creators.
Like fan fiction broadly, fan sequels extend beloved narratives—novels, films, video games—when official sequels don't exist or don't satisfy: The fan sequel to the canceled series picked up right where it left off.
Some achieve near-professional polish while remaining legally distinct from authorized works.
