essay contests
Prose submission competitions
Essay contests are competitions in which participants submit written essays to be judged, typically on an assigned topic.
Schools, organizations, and publications sponsor them, often with prizes of money or scholarships: She won a thousand dollars in the Rotary Club essay contest.
They serve as both writing practice and a way to engage young people with ideas.
