escape keys
Cancel command triggers
Escape keys are keyboard keys labeled "Esc" or "Escape," typically found in the upper left corner of computer keyboards.
Pressing an escape key generally cancels or closes the current operation, exits a mode, or dismisses a dialog box.
In many programs, it functions as a quick way to back out of something without committing to an action.
The term also appears in discussions of keyboard shortcuts: Hit the escape key to close the menu.
