emotional support dog
Therapeutic pet companion
An emotional support dog is a dog whose presence provides comfort and psychological benefit to its owner, typically someone with anxiety, depression, or other mental health conditions.
Unlike service dogs, emotional support dogs aren't trained to perform specific tasks and don't have the same legal access to public spaces, though they may be permitted in housing that otherwise prohibits pets.
