dry sand
Thirsty beach grains
Dry sand is sand that contains no moisture, as opposed to wet sand that holds its shape when molded.
In foundry work, dry sand refers to molds that have been baked to remove moisture before casting.
The term also appears in construction and landscaping contexts where moisture content affects how sand behaves: Dry sand won't compact properly for a paver base.
