drug holiday
Planned medication break
A drug holiday is a planned break from medication, typically under medical supervision.
Patients or doctors may schedule one to reduce side effects, assess whether the drug is still needed, or restore sensitivity to a medication that has lost effectiveness: His doctor recommended a drug holiday to see if he still needed the antidepressant.
