drop boxes
Unattended collection points
Drop boxes are secure containers where items can be deposited—ballots during elections, rented DVDs for return, packages for shipping, or documents for after-hours submission.
The term gained prominence in debates over mail-in voting: Critics claimed drop boxes were vulnerable to fraud.
A drop box may also be a digital folder for file sharing.
