driving wheels
Engine's powered wheels
Driving wheels are the wheels that receive power from an engine and propel a vehicle forward.
On a locomotive, these are the large wheels connected to the pistons by driving rods.
On automobiles, the term distinguishes powered wheels from passive ones: a rear-wheel-drive car has its driving wheels in back.
