dramatic recitations
Expressive spoken performances
Dramatic recitations are performances where someone speaks memorized text—poetry, monologues, or literary passages—with theatrical expression and vocal variation.
The form was popular entertainment in the 19th and early 20th centuries, before radio and film.
Today it survives mainly in educational settings and spoken-word events: She won the competition with her dramatic recitation of Poe's "The Raven".
