double dip

Two scoops, please

Double dip has several meanings united by the idea of going back for a second helping.

Most commonly, it means dipping a chip or vegetable into a shared dip after you've already bitten it—a minor social offense: Don't double dip!

In economics, a double-dip recession is one that briefly recovers before declining again.

To double dip can also mean collecting two incomes from the same source, especially drawing a pension while still employed by that employer: He retired from the force but double dips as a consultant.
