A dog kennel is a shelter or enclosure for dogs—either a small outdoor structure for a single animal or a facility where dogs are boarded or bred.
The term covers everything from a backyard doghouse to a commercial boarding operation: We left the dogs at the kennel while we were on vacation.
In British usage, kennel alone often suffices where Americans say dog kennel.
