divine judgement
Sacred final ruling
Divine judgement is the belief that God evaluates and renders verdicts on human conduct, either during life or after death.
In religious contexts, it refers to ultimate accountability before a supreme being: They believed the flood was divine judgement for the city's wickedness.
The concept appears across traditions—Christianity's Last Judgement, Islam's Day of Judgement.
Figuratively, any catastrophic event may be called divine judgement by those who see moral causation in misfortune.
