divey

Charmingly low-rent

Divey describes a place, usually a bar, that has the run-down, unpretentious character of a dive—dim lighting, sticky floors, cheap drinks, and a rough-around-the-edges clientele.

The word carries affection more than criticism: We found a divey little place with great burgers and dollar beers.

A divey bar is authentic rather than polished.
