direct exchange
Trade without intermediaries
Direct exchange is a transaction where goods or services are traded for other goods or services without using money as an intermediary—essentially, barter.
The term appears in economics to contrast with indirect exchange, where money facilitates trade: In a direct exchange, the farmer trades wheat for the blacksmith's tools.
