A dinglehopper is a fork—but only if you learned the word from Disney's *The Little Mermaid*, where the seagull Scuttle confidently misidentifies one to Ariel.
The term has become shorthand for any ordinary object given an absurdly fancy or incorrect name, or for confidently wrong explanations: He's always playing Scuttle, calling everything a dinglehopper.
