didact

Preachy instruction giver

A didact is a person who instructs or moralizes, often with an implication of being overly teacherly or preachy.

The word is rarer than its adjective form didactic, which describes anything intended to teach or inclined toward instruction: The novel's didactic passages slowed the plot.

A didact may genuinely want to educate, but the term often carries a whiff of condescension—someone who lectures when conversation would do.
