devotional candles
Sacred wax lights
Devotional candles are candles lit as acts of religious observance or spiritual intention.
In Catholic and Orthodox traditions, lighting a candle accompanies prayer, often for a specific person or intention: She lit a devotional candle for her grandmother.
The candles typically burn in churches before icons or statues, though people also keep them at home altars.
The practice extends beyond Christianity to various spiritual traditions where flame symbolizes prayer, remembrance, or connection to the divine.
