dethaw

Let ice melt

Dethaw is a nonstandard variant of thaw, treating the prefix as an intensifier rather than a reversal.

Since thaw already means to unfreeze, dethaw is technically redundant—like saying "unthaw"—but appears in casual speech: Let the meat dethaw before cooking.

Standard usage prefers thaw or defrost.
