deskinning
Stripping outer layer
Deskinning is removing the skin from something—typically meat, fish, or produce during food preparation.
The term also appears in gaming and software contexts, where it means stripping custom visual themes or graphical overlays from an interface, returning it to a default appearance: I spent an hour deskinning the media player to get rid of that ugly theme.
