desalter
Seawater treatment device
A desalter is equipment that removes salt from crude oil before refining, or more broadly, any device or system that removes salt from a substance.
In petroleum processing, desalters prevent corrosion and fouling in downstream equipment: The refinery's desalter handles 50,000 barrels daily.
The term also applies to water desalination equipment.
