desalt
Make seawater potable
To desalt is to remove salt from something, especially seawater or brackish water to make it drinkable: The coastal city desalts ocean water to supplement its supply.
The process, called desalination or desalinization, is increasingly important in water-scarce regions.
Desalt also applies to food preparation—soaking salt cod to reduce its salinity before cooking.
