demerit system
Infraction point accumulation
A demerit system is a method of tracking infractions by assigning negative points.
Schools use demerit systems to monitor student behavior; driving records accumulate demerits for violations.
When demerits reach a threshold, consequences follow—detention, suspension, license revocation.
The opposite approach, rewarding good behavior, is a merit system.
