degrees centigrade
Metric temperature units
Degrees centigrade is an older term for degrees Celsius, the metric unit of temperature where water freezes at 0° and boils at 100° at standard pressure.
The term centigrade (from Latin for "hundred steps") was officially replaced by Celsius in 1948 to avoid confusion with a French unit of angular measurement, though centigrade persists in casual use: The forecast calls for 25 degrees centigrade.
