defuel

Remove the fuel

To defuel is to remove fuel from a vehicle, aircraft, or storage tank—the opposite of refuel.

The term appears most often in aviation and aerospace contexts, where draining fuel may be necessary for maintenance, safety, or weight adjustment: The aircraft was defueled before entering the hangar.

Also spelled de-fuel.
