deer tail
Alarm signal patch
The tail of a deer, notably white on the underside in white-tailed deer, which flash it as an alarm signal when fleeing.
Deer tails are prized in fly fishing for tying lures, as the hollow hairs create buoyancy: bucktail jigs, deer tail streamers.
Also called a flag when raised in alarm.
