decloaking

Dropping the disguise

Decloaking is the act of becoming visible after being hidden or concealed.

The term comes from science fiction, where spacecraft use "cloaking devices" to become invisible, then decloak to reveal themselves.

It has spread to computing, where a user or device decloaks by revealing its presence on a network, and to general usage for any dramatic emergence from obscurity: The company decloaked its new product at the conference.

The noun form describes this moment of revelation.
