dark-adapted
Adjusted to dimness
Dark-adapted describes eyes that have adjusted to low light conditions, with pupils dilated and retinal cells sensitized for night vision.
The process takes twenty to thirty minutes in darkness: Once your eyes are dark-adapted, you can see far more stars.
Astronomers avoid bright lights to stay dark-adapted during observation sessions.
