dancing lights

Dancing lights are points or streaks of light that appear to move or flicker, whether from natural phenomena like fireflies and auroras, optical effects, or supernatural lore.

The phrase often describes will-o'-the-wisps—mysterious lights said to lead travelers astray in marshes and forests.

In fantasy gaming, it names a spell that conjures floating orbs of light: The wizard cast dancing lights to illuminate the cave.
