crime family

Organized crime clan

A crime family is an organized criminal group structured like a family, with hierarchical roles and often actual kinship ties.

The term typically refers to Mafia organizations: the Gambino crime family, Five Families controlled New York.

Members may call their leader a godfather and treat loyalty as a family obligation.

The structure provides both operational security and succession.
