creative imagination
Mind's novel visions
Creative imagination is the mental faculty that generates novel ideas, images, or concepts—the capacity to envision what doesn't yet exist.
Distinguished from reproductive imagination (which recalls or recombines memories), creative imagination produces genuinely new material: The novel required tremendous creative imagination.
The term appears frequently in discussions of art, invention, and child development.
