crankless

Lacking rotating handle

Crankless describes an engine or mechanism that operates without a crankshaft—the component that typically converts linear piston motion into rotation.

Most internal combustion engines use cranks, so crankless designs represent an engineering departure: crankless motor concepts, a crankless compressor.

The word also applies to anything simply lacking a crank handle.
