crank calls
Juvenile telephone harassment
Crank calls are prank phone calls made to annoy, frighten, or amuse—typically by disguising one's voice, asking absurd questions, or making false claims.
The practice peaked before caller ID made anonymity difficult: We made crank calls to random numbers from the phone book.
