counterfeit checks
Fraudulent bank papers
Counterfeit checks are fraudulent checks designed to look like legitimate ones, used to deceive businesses or individuals into providing goods, services, or cash.
Common scams involve overpayment—someone sends a counterfeit check for more than owed, then asks for the difference back before the check bounces: The buyer sent a counterfeit check for twice the asking price and asked me to wire the extra back.
