cotenancy
Shared rental arrangement
Cotenancy is shared ownership or occupancy of property by two or more parties.
In real estate, cotenants hold undivided interests in the same property—each has rights to the whole, not just a portion.
In commercial leases, a cotenancy clause lets a tenant reduce rent or exit if anchor stores close: The cotenancy provision kicked in when the department store left the mall.
