A corpse run is the trek back to your character's body after dying in a video game, typically to retrieve lost items or experience points.
The mechanic appears in MMORPGs and survival games as a death penalty: I died in the dungeon and had to do a corpse run through all those mobs again.
Some games make corpse runs punishing by design, adding tension to dangerous areas.
